A LESLIE KLINE LUKAS & ASSOCIATES CASE STUDY
Hospice
Home Capital Campaign
The
hospice program associated with Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, Iowa,
needed a separate, free-standing facility to meet a growing need to accommodate
patients who could no longer stay in their own homes. After completing a
feasibility study, the medical center turned to Leslie Kline Lukas &
Associates to counsel the hospice home capital campaign.
Goals and Objectives
- Gather $1.5 million
in gifts and pledges to construct the hospice facility.
- Motivate donors in
the community to give at higher levels than they had given to any previous
campaign in the community.
- Educate the public
throughout the medical center’s service area about the benefits of the
hospice program and the advantages of a free-standing hospice home.
Strategy
- Recruit and train
volunteer leadership in the basics of fund development and gift
solicitation.
- Identify prospective
donors and rate their giving capacities.
- Develop a compelling
case for support, expressed in written and DVD form. Debut the DVD at a
campaign kickoff event at the hospital.
- Guide volunteers in
solicitation of lead gifts from the medical and business communities.
- Execute a broad-based
fund appeal through the medical center’s multicounty service area.
Results
- Within six months of
the beginning of solicitations, gifts and pledges worth more than $1.4
million had been secured. The $1.5 million goal was reached within two
years.
- The hospice home
opened in 2008.
